1995 - The Lao PDR became a Party to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

The country is also a Party to :

• The Paris Convention - acceded 1998.
• Lao/Thailand Bilateral Agreement on Trademarks and Intellectual Property Rights - 1996.
• ASEAN multilateral treaty on a common filing system for trade marks and patents.

Preparations are being made to enable the Lao PDR to accede to the Berne Convention.

The Lao PDR is virtually ready to accede to the Patent Co-operation Treaty.
